Across both Android and iOS platforms we’ve seen base-building games such as the infamous Clash of Clans and newcomer Boom Beach reaching great success. With an already notorious household name, Activision has decided to expand their hit series Call of Duty to mobile devices in the way of the hottest new base-building app. Call of Duty: Heroes looks a lot like Boom Beach, but with the familiar characters from the console series that we’ve all grown to love. The artillery featured in the game is what you would expect from publishers Activision, again keeping in line with the weaponry featured throughout many of the existing Call of Duty games.
One very big difference between this new addition and the previous Call of Duty releases is the awesomeness that comes with controlling an entire army of legendary soldiers – a big switch from the first person shooter mode that we’ve become accustomed to. The aim of the game, as with most other base-building apps, is pretty simple – defend your base from onslaughts of enemies. Through each defeated wave you’ll unlock the ability to increase the strength of your armour and weaponry, allowing you to best prepare yourself for the more difficult waves as the game progresses.
My favourite feature of the game would have to be the fact that you get to choose your own hero to play as your main character, with the range of choices extending to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops II – with the promise of more to come through future updates.
Thus far, the game has only been soft launched into the Australian and New Zealand markets, via the iTunes App Store – but with a 4.5 star rating, it shouldn’t be long before this newbie is being played throughout the world.
