It may be just a few weeks old, but that hasn’t stopped the latest release from Disney surpassing the impressive milestone of reaching more than 5 million downloads. Since its launch on the 21st August, Star Wars: Commander has exceeded expectations on iOS devices, proving that a mega movie title and remarkable game play is truly an unstoppable combination. The marketing for this game is basic, simply put “Star Wars” in the title and you’re off to a good start – after all, you already have more than 30 years of brand marketing in your corner. What I love about this game, however, is that the developers have not sat back and let that do all the work. While it may be a Star Wars branded game, this game could stand alone without the brand, as the creators have developed sharp graphics, flawless game play and, of course, an epic struggle between good and evil.
Players will choose their allies wisely, as they decide on whether to team up with the Empire or the Rebellion in this base-building game. While some base-building games can be a little monotonous and lack imagination, Star Wars: Commander sees players battling through story-based missions, as they fight to protect their base and defeat the enemy. Proving that there’s a little bit of the dark-side in us all, game stats have shown that 52.4% of players are choosing to back the Empire… but the fight is far from over Rebels!
If you’re still on the fence about whether another base-building game is what you need, figures have shown that a massive 14 million battles have been waged since the launch of the game – less than one month ago. It doesn’t hurt either that the game is free to download in the iTunes App Store, so you’ve really got nothing to lose. Do yourself a favour and check it out today.
