Since the end of the financial year, there has been much talk in the industry regarding the impressive figures we’ve seen from some big name developers. An article we published yesterday revealed that predictions for revenue in 2015 are off the charts, leaving us with high expectations for the year to come. EA Mobile have revealed their revenue figures for 2014 and to simply say that they’re impressive would be a massive understatement.
So, what’s the secret to success for EA Mobile? Andrew Wilson, CEO, revealed in a recent interview, “Electronic Arts continues to put our players first, delivering new experiences, innovation and new ways to play.” In an industry like mobile gaming that is so rapidly changing, it’s sometimes easy to forget that as a developer you should always be creating unforgettable player experiences. While it is important to focus on monetisation strategies and how to rank in the top lists of the app stores, we must also remember the importance of delivering new experiences to users – a strategy that appears to infallible for EA Mobile.
Wilson continued by saying, “It was an excellent second quarter, with strong new titles, deep player engagement in our live services and ongoing digital growth driving continued momentum.” During the last quarter alone, EA Mobile recorded a whopping increase of $123 million, a jump of 64% from 2013. The Q2 FY15 financial figures also revealed that total revenue has improved by 42%, now sitting at an extraordinary $990 million.
What aspiring game developers and publishers should take away from this, is that it hasn’t always been sunshine and daisies for EA Mobile. Just twelve months ago, the company recorded a loss of $273 million, while in 2014 they’ve generated a net income of $3 million.
As the industry continues booming into the New Year, now is your chance to be a part of what is expected to be the leader of the entire gaming world. Personally, I can’t wait to see what developers are bringing us in 2015.
