Throughout 2014, we’ve seen an increase of games within the app stores that are attempting to bring an educational element to games that wouldn’t normally be seen as a tool for learning. With more and more kids acquiring smartphones and tablets at a younger age, this doesn’t seem like a bad thing to me, quite the opposite actually. If there’s one sure fire way to get kids learning, it’s by introducing mathematic or scientific problems and equations with their favourite movie characters by their side.
Penguins of Madagascar: Dibble Dash sees players venturing forth with the cheeky penguins from the movie franchise on an endless running adventure that will have you learning something along the way. So how exactly does math come into the picture without ruining the fun and flow of an endless runner? In a very clever way, in fact, as players are asked to answer a math based question when one of their penguins hits an obstacle throughout the game. If the player answers the questions correctly, their penguin is healed and they’re able to continue on their journey.
“We are very excited to be able to work with DreamWorks Animation to incorporate characters from the new Penguins of Madagascar movie into an ‘endless-runner’ game — a style which is extremely popular amongst gamers right now,” said Chris Williams, creative director at JumpStart. “Penguins of Madagascar: Dibble Dash sets itself apart from other endless runner games and is so much fun to play, that you’ll hardly even know you are learning math.”
The team at JumpStart are hoping to unleash this fun-packed learning experience to all audiences, with the game now available to iOS and Android users. In the coming months we’ll also see Penguins of Madagascar: Dibble Dash launching on Windows and Amazon devices.
