Nintendo is finally planning their move into the smartphone gaming world. By the end of the next financial year, Nintendo will release their first five apps through their partnership with the mobile games company DeNA. The Japan-based company plans to enter into the $30 billion mobile games market and this is the first solid detail from Kyoto.
Its aim is to make mobile games “one of the pillars of Nintendo’s revenue structure” said Company President Satoru Iwata. They will carefully select IP and titles for their mobile game debut and Nintendo have not yet announced which property will be used for their release.
Mr Iwata explains that they will demonstrate their commitment to the gaming world business by “thoroughly operating every one of them for a significant amount of time after their releases” even though five games may sound like a small number. He also noted that the transition into the mobile gaming world is not replacing the console gaming business for Nintendo, but rather complimenting it.
“All of our IP can be considered for a smart device game. On the other hand, since the game business on smart devices is already severely competitive, even with highly popular IP, the odds of success are quite low if consumers cannot appreciate the quality of a game.” said Mr Iwata.
The new launch of the games will no doubt have gamers around the world excited for their release.
