The worldwide hit streaming service Spotify is looking to expand its horizons with new and improved updates. At a recent media event in New York the company revealed the newest version of its platform. The update has introduced new content types to include videos from media partners, podcasts as well more personalised music playlists.
For example, these personalised playlists will be generated from various factors such as time of day or tracks that were previously listened to.
Additionally, the new features will enable users to play music through a Spotify Running feature. The feature is activated when it detects the pace of the users run and selects appropriate music. This feature will still integrate the users taste based on previous listening habits and will also include original running compositions.
Alongside music, Spotify has added new content to its platform including podcasts and video clips. The company has already partnered with major companies such as Vice Media, Maker Studios, ABC, BBC and NBC. Becoming smarter every time, the music program will suggest new audio and video content for users.
The CEO of Spotify, Daniel Ek recently announced that “We’re bringing you a deeper, richer, more immersive Spotify experience. We want Spotify to help soundtrack your life by offering an even wider world of entertainment with an awesome mix of the best music, podcasts and video delivered to you throughout your day. And we’re just getting started.”
The new features will roll out to iPhone users in Germany, UK, US and Sweden as of Wednesday. The Spotify Running feature will soon be incorporated with RunKeeper and the Nike+ app by the end of 2015.
