The world of mobile messaging apps is no doubt growing and more recently, it appears that there is a need for the app developers to get more creative so that their app stands out. The messaging app Flips, has recently labelled themselves “visually powered” allowing for users to combine photos and videos with text and emojis in order to create and share flip-book like messages with friends and family.
It works by allowing users to send messages by assigning a picture or video to a message and even align them to individual elements of the phrase. For example, users can take a picture then of a shocked face to represent an explanation point, or laugh in a short clip to represent “lol”. An audio clip can also be assigned to the video or image, or left out to convey a silent message. The app allows users to import from a camera roll or use the camera within the app.
As users build a small library within the app of their “flips” (the visual pairings for words, emoji or punctuations) they can then be reused in future messages. Its in the hands of the sender to resuse their flips or not and decide which visual works within their messages.
Anthony Alferi, the CEO of Flips recently commented “Regular text messages are flat. Even with emojis, there is only so much that can be communicated and often times, simple messages are misinterpreted. Flips reenergizes your conversations and injects more fun, creativity and possibility your messages. Rather than turn to overused phrases or images, Flips lets you create your own visual vocabulary that’s completely unique and true to you.”
We will no doubt see Flips become widely popular in the near future and the app is available for free download on the iTunes App Store.
