eBay is keeping up with the trends like competitors Target and Amazon with its newly launched Apple Watch application. The new Apple Watch app will now allow people to see items they are bidding on, selling and watching as well as see an overview of their notifications. The app will also offer push notifications to assist the buyers and sellers in quickly seeing messages or keeping tabs on items they’re watching.
About two years ago eBay offered applications for smartwatches with simliar functions such as for the Pebble and Samsung Galaxy Gear. However, the Apple Smartwatch is said to take over the smartwatch market moving forward. It is important for eBay to keep up the latest progressions in the app space, especially after seeing its rival Amazon coming to the Apple Watch in April.
John Tapley, eBay’s senior product manager for mobile and wearables said “Our goal is to make it relevant to users and not obnoxious”. “We are just at the start of it, so we’ll continue to evolve the feature set over time”.
Its not just eBay that’s jumping on the Apple Watch application bandwagon, with many other e-commerce companies and retailers creating them. All of these companies have the same intentions to follow the trend of consumers moving towards smartwatches and smartphones from the old fashioned personal computer. A staggering 50 percent of eBay users are utilising their mobile app so its imperative that the company keeps up with where their customers are.
Other big players on the Apple Watch include Amazon, who allow for purchases and search on its app, as well as Target who generated a shopping list application. eBay has always had the intentions to make its app more like a storefront and less like a classified listing page and this shows with its recent enhancement on its search functions.
The marketplace will doubt continue to boom with popularity as users remain loyal and keep up to date with its enhancements and app launches.
