Recently, the video sharing, photo sharing and social networking service Instagram has boosted the size of the digital photo posts on their mobile apps by approximately 40%.
Now supporting more detailed images the pictures will be able to be stored and shared with a photo resolution of 1080 pixels by 1080 pixels. It has been said that the switch to the larger photos will most likely happen within the coming days or weeks.
It is now that with higher quality resolution the snapped photos will be more like their original quality without being stretched out. A spokeswoman who announced the upgrade said that the company has no plans to include the upgraded resolution for browsers that support laptop computers and desktops.
There is also the issue of having highly compressed images on Instagram’s Android app and the question lies in whether or not this has been addressed. The pics however, are stored in high resolution.
Since Instagram’s launch in 2010, the limit on its image sizes has been 640 x 640 pixels as mobile phone cameras originally were unable to capture or display bigger images.
Smart phones cameras have now changed however and are now able to support much higher resolution images.
In 2012, Instagram was bought out by Facebook and the social network believes to have over 300 million users.
