Just recently released is the Q2 2015 State of Mobile advertising report by Opera Mediaworks, a mobile ad platform for brands. The report shows which kinds of apps users engage with daily as well as measures revenue across mobile platforms and overall traffic.
The report shows that social media apps are the most popular “first app of the day” for users in the US. The most common “last app of the day” for users are entertainment app and with there being four major categories; games, social media, entertainment and news and information, users have a variety of different first and last apps each day and month.
The apps that came in with the most user loyalty are news and information apps. They had the most consistent first and last app of the day throughout the month. The only app category that showed to be more popular in the morning that the evening is sports, which is surprising as its not in the top four categories.
It was determined that Android is in the lead for revenue generation and mobile traffic, showing 47.77 percent share of revenue, opposed to 47.16 for iOS. Its share in mobile traffic accounted for 63.72 percent and that iOS was behind at 21.74 across all platforms.
In terms of monetization potential, iPad showed to have generated the highest revenue per impression of any platform and device combination.
