To be launched to the iTunes and Google Play stores is Yahoo’s new messaging app, Livetext – that stays silent. The app is due to launch on Thursday in Germany, US, UK, Canada and France for both Android and iOS devices.
The app allows users to type out responses and connects friends in a video live chat session. The app however, does not use audio. It works by connecting Yahoo users so a user needs to know another users Yahoo ID. You are able to match up the Yahoo ID’s with contact info in the phone.
In a recent statement, Yahoo’s senior director of product management Arjun Sethi says “today, we’re introducing Yahoo Livetext – a new way to communicate that blends the immediacy, simplicity and ease of texting with the expressiveness of video, without the audio. We see video as a way to make your conversations more authentic, and we see text as a way to connect that’s quick and non-intrusive.”
Another capability is that you are able to send non-users a text inviting them to download the app.
Although the app is still due to be released on Thursday, it has been tested in Ireland, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Yahoo’s senior vice president of video, design and emerging products, Adam Cahan, said in a recent statement “Every platform shift leads to new forms of communication, driven by our desire to connect and interact in richer ways. We wanted to create a new way to communicate, blending the simplicity of texting with the emotion and immediacy of live video, to make your experience spontaneous and real.”
Livetext is available for a free download from iTunes App Store and Google Play.
