For those familiar with the ins and outs of the mobile gaming industry, the developer Kabam will be one you are well aware of. While their initial start to the gaming world came from internet and social networking exposure, the privately owned company has expanded to the mobile application playing field, announcing revenues of $360 million for 2013 alone. Jon Jordan at PocketGamer.biz outlined the developers’ finances for the year, after the private company released details of their success as a result of branching out into the fast paced world of mobile gaming.
While the company’s initial success began with its campaign in web and Facebook games, the smart move of transferring platforms to iOS & Android devices, and creating a more accessible playing field for all audiences, was clearly a good one. In 2013, Kabam saw 70% of their profits being raised from that of mobile gaming applications. There are many ‘one hit wonder’ apps in the rapidly moving sector of mobile gaming; however, this developer managed to set the standards high with 11 games grossing in excess of $1 million dollars in the period of a month. If that wasn’t enough to impress the critics out there, Kabam also released the information that four of their most popular games have accumulated more than $100 million in profits during their lifespan and still continue to grow.
If you’re still querying who exactly Kabam are, you may be more familiar with their game release titles, including the likes of the incredibly popular ‘Kingdoms of Camelot’ and ‘Dark District’. The ‘free-to-play’ publisher has teams in both China and the US, broadening its international clientele and offering a wider variety of game play styles, helping to further monetize their apps, including their new release title from China, ‘Wartune’.
With such a massive year behind them in 2013, Kabam is one developer to watch out for in the New Year.
