One of our favourite social networks Facebook has now added a new feature for users of its mobile app. Users are now able to upload a looping video as a substitute for their profile picture.
The videos will only, however, be able to be uploaded in video format, rather than Vine or GIF formats. The rollout will begin for iphone users throughout the UK and California with the intentions to release on a wider scale soon.
Furthermore, Facebook mobile users can set their video profile for a certain time period before it expires and reverts to their previous picture. At this early stage in rollout, the video will not play on the newsfeed and will only move once a person visits the profile specifically.
A staff member from Facebook said in recent blogpost “Profile videos will let you show a part of yourself you couldn’t before, and add a new dimension to your profile,”
It seems that if all 1.4 billion users of Facebook decided to switch to the video profile Facebook would have to invest in a completely new data centre to support the change. It does however, seem unlikely that all users will follow suit.
This new feature for Facebook surely adds a whole new dimension to your profile and we will no doubt see the continued success of the Facebook app growth around the world.
The Facebook mobile app is available for a free download from iTunes App Store and Google Play.
