While we’ve previously written articles in the past about companies expanding their exposure to reach worldwide audiences and even an article about gaming developer Kabam, the latest news that the company plans to open offices in South Korea is something to be watched closely. All developers and analysts know that one sure fire way to increase the exposure of your apps is to reach a greater target audience, namely by expanding business to a global level, although in many cases this is easier said than done.
Asia has one of the most thriving mobile game markets in the world, with a number of reputable developers basing themselves in the content and millions of players daily. The recent announcement from Kabam that they will be opening an office in Seoul, South Korea, comes as no shock as the company plans to take over the mobile gaming industry one country at a time. The move will enable Kabam to take advantage of the huge growth prospects in Korea, thanks to mobile messaging platform Kakao Talk, which has become a common household name for most mobile users.
Originally based in San Francisco, Kabam is amongst many developers to join the trend of optimising their ability to monetise their apps by increasing the exposure to international audiences. Two of the biggest things to come out of the latest gaming news is the importance of messaging capabilities and worldwide playability, both of which Facebook and King (known for their hit Candy Crush Saga) have embraced. Billions of dollars was spent by Facebook on What’sApp, a messaging service that enables more exposure internationally. King’s has also jumped on-board, recently filing for an IPO.
With South Korea being the first county in the world to reach a greater than 50% statistic for long-term evolution subscribers, the move by Kabam is not only smart, but may well just be one for the record books… Watch out 2014.
