Chart results and records from the first quarter of 2014 have shown the increase of popularity amongst quiz related games that really test your knowledge. Developers are bringing the excitement of game shows to the convenience of your own two hands, with ‘guess that logo’ style quizzes, various trivia challenges and even brain teasers for specific categories. QuizUp has shown that this category of games in the App Store is continuing to increase in popularity, reaching an impressive 1 million downloads on Android devices in just the first seven days of release.
‘Plain Vanilla Games’ is a household name in the gaming industry, so it comes as no surprise that these are the intelligent folk who are bringing QuizUp to life. After it’s incredible success on iOS devices following a launch through the Apple App Store, it was a no-brainer for the team to jump quickly across to Android users – a mover that proved to be a smart one. Since its release in late 2013, QuizUp has exceeded more than 12.5 million downloads across both iOS and Android devices.
Unlike many other trivia based games, QuizUp provides a social aspect to the game – a technique that has proven its success in boosting MAU percentages and popularity amongst users. One very interesting piece of knowledge that should be taken on board by other developers is the difference in likes and dislikes between iOS and Android users. Fridriksson, CEO of Plain Vanilla Games, stated that “It’s been interesting to see the differences in gameplay across iOS and Android users, especially when it comes to popular topics. For example, topics such as Pokemon or Name the Toy never made the top ten for iOS, but have become extremely popular on Android.”
With the popularity of the game continuing to increase steadily since its release late last year, Plain Vanilla Games say that they will continue to update and release new content regularly and have announced that they also have plans to expand the game further, by localising the questions for major countries around the globe.
