It seems as though of late, most of the headlines surrounding mobile gaming and chart toppers have had something to do with the King trademark saga, the never-ending supply of slot games that seem to pop up around every corner and quiz or trivia games that seem to have taken the social and mobile gaming world by storm in 2014. There is one underdog, however, that is making its entrance into the charts quite elusively – the genre of music games. Thinking as far back as you can, I’m sure you have some recollection of a music related game that was hanging around in the charts, whether it’s the infamous Shazam or an unknown DJ mixer.
In 2014, a new generation of music apps have hit the charts, including the popular “Sketch-a-Song Kids”, along with “Dubstep Hero” – which is sure to be an overnight success amongst Guitar Hero fans. This music rhythm game was created for lovers of dubstep, where users can choose from a number of popular songs, including tracks from artists Fast Foot, Tom Reason and BREAKING NEWS. To be honest, I’m not a massive fan of dubstep, but with a rating of 4.2 in the Google Play Store, I had to see what all the fuss was about. Much like Guitar Hero, the concept is simple, yet incredibly addictive. If you love music, whatever the genre, you won’t be able to put this one down.
What’s great about the new music apps that are coming out of the woodwork, such as Dubstep Hero, is that unlike past games to have topped the charts, they provide a much more interactive gaming experience for users. Instead of getting trivia on your favourite song or discovering those lyrics you thought you’d never know, gamers listen to the beat and play by matching the rhythm of the song to the buttons on the screen. Users can even upload their own MP3 and WAV files, so you can mash it up to just about any track you want.
While it’s a long road ahead, we may be looking at a new craze in mobile gaming, one that could even take over the candy kingdom that seems forever looming. Lovers of music arcade games, guitar hero and electronic beats shouldn’t hesitate to check out the latest in this genre, because if Dubstep Hero is anything to go by, we can expect some wicked music games to emerge in 2014.
