Initially, I downloaded this app purely to see what all the fuss was about, after a noticed a bombardment of similar style games taking over the App Store. Whether it’s “Don’t Tap the White Tile” or “Piano Tiles”, I’m sure you’ve noticed this style of App of late in the store. While the concept of the game is incredibly simple, making it suitable for almost any age and gaming style, it’s actually very addictive – hence the popularity seen on both iOS and Android devices.
So, what is all the fuss about when it comes to Don’t Tap the White Tile? Basically, you have a bunch of white tiles and selected black tiles and you have to tap on the black tiles (without touching the white) to progress up the screen. As you press on each black tile a musical note will play and as you continue upwards, those notes will begin to form a song. For lovers of classical music or even if you know a few of Beethoven’s all-time favourites, this is a great little perk to keep you playing, as you’ll always want to know which song will unfold in front of you for the next round.
The different game styles also keep this one interesting, in comparison to similar varieties in the App Stores. “Classic” mode sees players rushing against the clock to complete the level with the fastest time possible, always racing to beat their top score. “Arcade” mode, on the other hand, sees the screen continually progressing upwards once you’ve touched that first tile, so you spend the game trying to keep up with the computer, without touching any white tiles of course!
Will this be a game that lasts throughout the ages? Probably not. Is it a great way to waste time when you’re waiting in line? Most definitely. After all, we love a mobile game that’s just that – mobile and made for players on the go.
