Well, you’ve probably guessed it (and I’m actually surprised that it took someone this long) but the App Store has finally been graced with the presence of a Forrest Gump endless runner – based on the box office hit that has been adored by families for the past two decades! That’s right, twenty years after the film was released in 1994, Genera Mobile have launched the ultimate infinite running game. While the game is still in the soft launch phase, only released to New Zealand iOS users, critics have already jumped on board with some good and some very bad reviews.
Most of the bad reviews circle around the fact of “how could you do this to FORREST GUMP!” and other such nonsense. In my personal opinion, from someone who loves the movie, I think it’s going to be great and can’t wait for the news of launch dates in Australia and around the world.
Many of these critics need to give it a bit of a break and just enjoy the game for what it is – a game. This fun endless running app is not going to change to movie at all or even the perception of the movie, if anything, it may get some more hold-outs to actually watch the film. So all the haters on the internet need to just calm down a little.
In more good news, the soft launch of the app has revealed that “Run Forrest Run!” will be free to play. While some endless runners can become a little monotonous, Genera Mobile have made certain that this will not happen, incorporating some fun vehicles and accessories to mix it up, including a ride-on mower and the infamous helmet that made Forrest the best football player in history.
If you love the movie, then you’re likely to get a lot more from the game, as there are many references that will fly over the heads of those who haven’t seen the film. I think Genera Mobile has summed up the game quite eloquently, also adding that touch of enticement, saying “Remember, the world will never be the same once you’ve seen it through the eyes of Forrest Gump.”
Now, tell me you don’t want to run across the country, discovering the iconic Route 66, as the infamous Forrest Gump himself.
