Appie Annie, the mobile app intelligence platform has announced that they have acquired the mobile measurement service that has one of largest data sets on mobile app usage, Mobidia. Mobidia is one of the youngest app usage data providers and tracks hundreds of thousands of mobile networks and apps worldwide.
Mobidia brings a huge asset deal to App Annie and although the financial details have not been made public, the deal was a combination of stock and cash. App Annie now has 12 global offices after acquiring Mobidias space at their Vancouver headquarters.
As part of the deal, former CEO Derek Spratt from Mobidia will join App Annie as the GM of App Annie Canada alongside somewhat 30 other employees that will move to their team. The company says that it will be combining Mobidia’s data with its Usage Intelligence platform to assist in the company’s international expansion. This will allow an offering of data across both iOS and Android in 60 countries.
The Usage Intelligence will allow for reach, engagement, context, data usage, customers tracking of an apps active users, frequency of use as well as the value of each user and penetration by country.
This will be App Annie’s second big acquisition after acquiring Distimo last year, a rival app store analytics provider. The company is certainly making it hard for its competitors to keep up and has recently been recognised as the leading app powerhouse. It has approximately 400 000 mobile app professional users from about 100 000 companies and 90% of the top publishers using its service. With big names in their customer database such as Electronic Arts, Google, Linked In and Samsung the customer base amounts to almost half the app stores revenue.
While the recent acquisition won’t be the last for App Annie this year, the company hopes to further expand into international markets, fund M&A activity and improve its analytics platform.
