The hit television show, with millions of devoted viewers’ world-wide, is about to hit the small screen in a big way, as TNT and Little Orbit announced the release of “Falling Skies: Planetary Warfare”. Many television series have been recreated into successful mobile applications in the past, such as “The Simpsons: Tapped Out”, which has seen a good consistency with its placement on the charts. With an already strong fan base from the hit TV show, the partnership between TNT and Little Orbit seems to be a smart move. Developers of the game have created a wartime strategy concept, following the success of many other strategy games on both iOS and Android devices, including the likes of “Clash of Clans”, “Warhammer” and “XCOM: Enemy Unknown”, which were all ranked in the Top 10 Strategy Games for iPhone and iPad users by PocketGamer.
“Falling Skies: Planetary Warfare” gives users the option of choosing sides before beginning the strategy game, where you can either choose to defend the world from invasion on the side of the Human Resistance or bring out the bad-ass within you and join the Alien Invaders. This development is likely to work both ways for TNT and Little Orbit, with the television hit series gaining new viewers after users get amongst the hype of the free to download app and avid viewers already enthusiastic about the game before they’ve even begun playing – a smart partnership between the producers and the developers. While the game is free to download for iPhone, iPad and Android devices, it is supported by giving players the option of upgrading with in-app purchases. Strategy games tend to see great success with this type of mobile marketing, as it’s all too tempting to get a quick upgrade, for just a few dollars, when the enemy forces are invading your map.
Between captivating story lines from the popular TV series, intense multiplayer battles and the chance to command your own human resistance or alien alliance, “Falling Skies: Planetary Warfare” will be one strategy game to watch out for in 2014.
