Celebrating the close of its first year since launch in the iOS App Store, the creators of Dots really have something to celebrate, as they line their birthday cake with close to 20 million candles. It’s all laughter and smiles for the team at Betaworks One as the latest stats for the incredibly popular mobile game have revealed that it’s about to embark on the 20 million download mark, since its launch in 2013.
Like many of the most popular chart toppers in both the iTunes and Google Play App Stores, the concept of Dots is rather simple, yet highly addictive. The rundown of the game is that players connect the dots on the screen in front of them, only using right angle directions. Achievements are awarded throughout the levels, for various accomplishments including “Square One – Make a Square” and “Jack of Squares – Clear 15 dots with a square”. The achievements come with cute little names and characters, while players are also rewarded a “dot bonus” for each different category. Power ups can be added to the games and a leader board helps you to keep track of your progress. Players also have the choice of testing their skills against various modes, including Timed, Moves, Endless and Challenges.
While 20 million downloads in itself is a significant achievement for any mobile application, it seems as though users continue to play Dots after the initial honeymoon period, with more than 5 billion rounds of the game played since its launch last April. Initially launched in the iOS App Store, Betaworks One later released Dots for Android users, proving to be a smart move, with the latest figures showing that users have spent a significant amount of time playing the game for an equivalent of what would be 9000 years – or half a trillion dots connected.
