The mix of a hit movie or TV series and a great new app has proven to be nothing but successful in the past, and Dreamworks Animation in partnership with Ludia are hoping that their new game will be no different. Whether you watched the movie or not, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve at least heard of “How to Train Your Dragon”. After rave reviews at the box office, Dreamworks Animation have decided to team up with social and mobile game developer Ludia, to bring audiences “Dragons: Rise of Berk”, which will only be available on iOS devices.
The creators have done a great job at honing in on what mobile gaming audiences love, bringing an already smash hit movie to the table, along with adorable characters and city building game play style. Users will also meet familiar characters from “How to Train Your Dragon” along the way, as the venture on quests to rebuild a Viking city, all the while caring for and collecting dragons. While the majority of the quests in the game are related to rebuilding your city, I have a sneaking suspicion that many players will be carrying out these quests in order to upgrade their dragon’s abilities, in order to find more dragon eggs to hatch and collect.
While the game is free to download on iOS devices, gamers can expect to be enticed by in-app purchases, which will enable you to complete quests at a faster rate, upgrade your dragons and visit the 25 islands that make up your map. I’m sure many of the initial downloads in the App Store will come from “How to Train Your Dragon” fans, but if the games popularity continues to increase, a whole new fan base could be created for the franchise.
