A recent study from Localytics has revealed that one in five apps are downloaded and opened just once before being deleted. While this may seem like a huge number of apps, the results have improved from previous years, but you may still be surprised by which apps are most likely to get the boot. When looking further into the figures provided by Localytics, the study reveals that Games and Sports Apps are the most common style to be deleted after just one use. A massive 22-23% of Games and Sports Apps that are downloaded are opened only once; proving that developers really need to step up their techniques for first impressions.
I’m guilty of doing this exact thing, as I’m sure most of you are, and personally I find myself deleting Apps that immediately lag or seem nothing like what they did in the App Store. The study carried out by Localytics delved into the habits of both iOS and Android users, also revealing that Android Apps show better longevity, with a lower rate of discarding, due to longer periods of engagement recorded by users. According to the experts at Localytics, “one reason behind the higher iOS rates is app-overload in terms of pre-installed and competing applications. It also suggests that the wider variety of screen sizes and form factors running Android contributes to a more natural environment for games and news content, encouraging retention and engagement.”
So, what apps are passing the user test and holding strong on our phones? Health & Fitness, Social Networking and Weather Apps showed the longest periods of usage, making them the least likely apps to be deleted after just one use.
