Successful publishers and developers within the industry understand the importance of the loyalty of monthly active users, in order to maintain good monetisation figures. While we know there are a number of factors that may influence the success of your monetisation strategies, encouraging players to return to your app on a regular basis will greatly increase the likelihood of in-app purchases being made. In more recent years, we’ve seen a number of different tactics from developers attempting to increase the number of monthly active users for their app, including “log-in bonuses” and one off rewards.
One app that really caught my eye when it came to offering incentives for players to return, was Monster Busters. In my opinion, this three match puzzle game already offers captivating gameplay that would encourage users to continue playing, however, the developers have also incorporated a daily log in bonus, which offers users in-game currency for each day they return. The log-in bonus also increases each day, providing even further incentive for players to log in on a daily basis. If this wasn’t already enough to keep players enticed, the game announced its first anniversary yesterday, celebrating by giving all players unlimited lives for 24 hours.
While limiting the number of lives players will receive and allocating a set time for regeneration can encourage users to spend more money via in-app purchases, it can easily backfire if you’re too greedy with what you’re offering. With millions of games available in both the iOS and Android app stores, the competition to gain more monthly active users (MAUs) has never been more fierce. Always remember that while aggressive monetisation techniques can get you money in the short term, it may be worth offering a little something extra to loyal players, to ensure that they are making you the big bucks for years to come.
