The latest trend of incorporating Role Playing Games into Puzzle style games on mobile devices seems to be really taking off on a global scale. Earlier this week we talked about the latest SEGA Network game “Dragon Coins”, which really spiced up an ordinary coin-dozer game with the addition of RPG Battle elements throughout the levels. “Knights of Puzzelot” (if mobile gaming has taught us anything, it’s that you can’t go wrong with a good pun) is the latest creation from Glu Games on iOS that combines a three-match puzzle game with RPG elements.
Most gamers like to mix up their styles every so often, from RPG’s and strategy to puzzle and tower defense games. This new combination style of game allows users to spend longer periods of time on one particular game without becoming bored or losing interest – or so these developers hope. I must admit that Glu Games really have done a great job of blending the two different gaming styles together, as players battle enemies or defend their hero by making matches of 3 to progress throughout the various levels. Offering more than your average three-match puzzle game, “Knights of Puzzelot” sees players battling waves of opponents in order to emerge as the successor and to also get their hands on prizes and treasure that can be used once out of battle to purchase power-ups and equipment upgrades.
When asked about their new game, Christopher Locke, GM of Glu Canada, said “Knights of Puzzelot is designed to appeal to a wide audience of casual, RPG, and match-3 players and offers a truly captivating experience”.
As you would expect, “Knights of Puzzelot” is a free to play game on iOS devices, with monetisation generated from in-app purchases of extra gems. Released just this week into the App Store, be sure to check out the colourful and sharp graphics, along with the addictive nature of this fun RPG Puzzle Game.
