Just recently Playlab, the Bangkok studio and creators of Juice Cubes has announced that they have officially closed a series B funding round of $5 million.
The funding was by South East Asia- focused venture capital outfit Monk’s Hill Ventures and is the company’s first external cash injection. Previously the company subsisted on its own revenue and self-funding.
Playlab predominantly looked at west as its long-term source of income, despite its location. Jakob Lykkegaard, the CEO of Playlab said in a recent statement that the investment had changed his outlook. “Prior to this, we made most of our revenue in Western markets, but due to our location we have followed Southeast Asia for some time,”.
“We are looking into several deals [here], everything from IP and new studios to market grab. [The] first step is to find the smartest people in each country and take it from there.”
It has been said that the recent cash landing has made his team even more ambitious, after already having grown from a team of 20 to a 100 strong studio over the recent year.
We will no doubt see the company continue to grow and the ever increasing popularity of Playlab apps around the world.
