When we think of apps, we don’t really understand the size of the industry. We look at a 99c download and immediately think ‘Cheap Industry’. Well that’s what I’ve found when I open the topic for discussion. This misconception could not be further from the truth. The app industry is a global money making machine with uncapped earning potential.
To give you a picture, let’s talk about LA based mobile publisher Scopely and their plans to enter into a multi-game publisher deal with Digit Game Studios.
Digital Game Studios has developed one of the world renowned cross-platform strategy games Kings of the Realm and is one of Ireland’s largest game developers.
Scopely has announced that it has made a multi-million dollar investment into the game developer. In late 2014 the publisher raised a staggering £35 million to fuel its plans for publishing deals and development. Yes, you read correctly. ‘£35 million’. The deal is the latest that Scopely is bankrolling thanks to its own recent successes in mobile and venture funding.
The joint venture aims to combine Scopely’s past successes in releasing chart-topping casual games that have led the way on Google Play and the App Store with Digital Game Studios strong development experience in strategy games.
Richard Barnwell, the founder and CEO of Digit Game Studios says “We’ve gotten to know many well-known publishers and chose to work with Scopely because we believe they give us the best chance to build the games we aspire to make and turn them into huge commercial successes,”.
He believes that the partnership will allow their team to grow and continue to focus on building outstanding games with the confidence that Scopely can bring a large audience. They have intentions to add new features to Kings of the Realm and launch all-new titles together.
