In the past few years, console gamers have embraced the experience of broadcasting live gameplay to show off their skills and, in turn, learn from others. Developments with internet connectivity around the globe have made all of this possible – but the advancements don’t stop there. Mobile gamers can now benefit from the same style of tool, as Twitch announces the release of mobile SDK for broadcasting mobile gameplay.
The game streaming platform, known as Twitch, has been undeniably successful for both PC and console games and is now branching out into the world of mobile gaming. The service that Twitch is offering to developers will allow users to not only capture their best gaming moments for reminiscing or further critiquing, but instead of simply being archived, users will also be able to share and compare with fellow gamers. What’s really great about this new feature is that not only can gameplay be captured in real time, but also audio and views from the font facing camera of an iOS or Android device. The SDK will use both internal and external microphones to capture audio transmissions and will be available for immediate viewing on the Twitch platform.
Recent studies have shown that a massive part of success for mobile gaming applications is the social aspect involved, where users can share a part of themselves or interact with other gamers. Once the video has been uploaded to the Twitch platform from a mobile device, users can edit the settings for viewing and also personalise their chat section with colours and various emoticons.
The Twitch mobile viewing application has recently reached 10 million downloads across both iOS and Android devices, making this announcement icing on the cake for the company and a look into the future of mobile gaming.
