There are two new apps being developed by social media giant LinkedIn. One of the apps being tested is called LinkedIn Look Up and the app allows users to discover information about co-workers within their company. The other app is named LinkedIn Groups and is being developed with the intention to notify users when messages get posted into social groups that they are a part of. At present, it remains unclear as to whether or when, either of the two will be launched.
LinkedIn is also looking to simplify communication and work on testing changes in mobile messaging across its apps. More than half of LinkedIn’s traffic is now mobile phone users which allow for faster and easier access to the service.
Commonly known as “unbundling”, this trend is also visible on other social networks. For example, Facebook has a number of apps including two mobile messaging services in WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger as well as the photo sharing application – Instagram. Some say that LinkedIn are behind in times compared to its competitors. There is a considerable difference in minutes spent on the apps with Facebook users utilising the app for more than 44 minutes a day and Linked In users coming in at just under a minute.
There are currently eight other LinkedIn mobile apps including one designed for job seekers and recruiters. Just recently as Wednesday, the company launched an updated version of news app called Pulse. Unlike Facebook, LinkedIn has allowed all its core features to remain in the application.
It appears that the move reflects a broader strategic shift for the company and it has a solid focus on buildings apps and services that enhance engagement amongst its staggering 364 million users.
