Whether you’ve seen the movies or just played the game, people from all around the world, of all ages have fallen in love with the minions of the Gameloft, Universal and Illumination Entertainment creation, Despicable Me: Minion Rush. Based on the characters from the blockbuster hit Despicable Me and it’s sequel, this endless running game has reached an incredible milestone, with 150 million downloads world-wide. While the publishers of the game have boasted their success with reaching this mammoth download count, the game has already received it’s own credits, winning the BAFTA Kid’s Vote Game of the Year Award for 2013.
The great thing about this game is that the creators have taken the simple concept of an endless running app and turned it into an addictive, competitive and thoroughly enjoyable game for all ages. Players adopt the character of the quirky minion and begin running through Gru’s famous lab and continue through the streets of the Despicable Me movie set, as the game progresses. Features include the usual level-up’s you would expect to see, while collecting bananas along the way can assist players in buying items from the games’ store. As you would imagine, the further you run, the harder the game becomes – cleverly enticing players of all ages to continue to play in order to beat their high score. One great thing about this app is that users also have the option to challenge their Facebook friends, because who doesn’t like a little friendly competition!

The president of partnerships and licensing at Universal, Stephanie Sperber, has stated that receiving the BAFT Kid’s Vote Game of the Year Award “proves the immense popularity of the brand and that we were able to provide the perfect game companion, extending the experience for fans looking to interact with the beloved characters from the film.” By already reaching more than 150 million downloads, it seems as though Gru’s anti-gravity serum isn’t needed here, as the sky really is the limit for this iPhone and Android app.
