As of late, it seems as though the app stores have been overrun with an abundance of strategy games, but personally I’ve found the majority to be a little dull and redundant. While there have been a few gems amongst the mix, there hasn’t really been a game that’s captured my attention. Earlier this week, however, Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf launched on iOS devices and at first glance it appears to be a promising adventure. Unlike many of the other mobile strategy games currently crowding the app stores, developer HeroCraft has done a great job at replicating the PC gaming experience, which many of us fondly remember from the original strategy games to hit the market.
Venturing forth into the single player campaign, users will engage in battle by using cards and action points to complete each combat scenario. While you will be expected to engage in strategic play during battle, the character you choose at the beginning of each scenario will also have to be a tactical move. Choosing from Grey Hunter, Wolf Scout or Wolf Guard, players will have to pick a character based on their specialties, in order to successfully win each battle.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf is free to play, however, expect to be enticed by in-app purchases after just a few levels. If you’re up for a challenge you’ll be able to complete combat scenarios without making any purchases, but if you’re an impatient player you may be reaching into your wallet, as the monetisation strategies from HeroCraft do prove to be tempting. If you are someone who enjoys either strategy or card battle games, I would definitely recommend checking out the latest from the Warhammer 40, 000 series.
“We are proud to release the first free-to-play Warhammer 40,000 game, but it’s only the beginning. Our team is dedicated to developing the game and adding new content, cards, campaigns and gameplay modes, including PvP battles,” said Alexey Sazonov, COO at HeroCraft.
While we’ve already seen quite a few Warhammer 40, 000 titles in the iTunes App Store, Space Wolf is completely free to download – the first in what we’re hoping will be a great series from HeroCraft.
